THIS is what I’m talking about. A kid from up north (Tofino, BC, in this case) absolutely opens it up on the world stage — not just with some mind blowing surfing, but with an original music selection and some exemplary filming and editing, too.
Wait, wait, you’re saying. What the eff is “Innersection.tv“? Well, it’s one of the many things I occupy my brain with for reasons I don’t quite understand. In this case, it’s actually a pretty novel form of Webertainment — an online, juried surf video contest put on by a surf filmmaker who definitely knows his stuff. This guy, Taylor Steele, managed to crowd source videos buy opening up submissions to pretty much anyone who rips. That’s good in and of itself because it’s expose new and previously unrecognized talent in both the “ripping” and “filming and editing” departments.
This cut is a great example of what happens when surfers break out from behind the Orange Curtain, find some new spots and listen to something other than Cali pop punk, metal and “shave your chest before the rave” electronic music (yeah, I’m talking to you JOB). There are a few issues, specifically the overt cutting to the song, but hey, it’s still pretty damn good. On every level, too — from the production to the pulling-into-ledging-barrels-in-at-least-a-5/4-which-is-just-crazy.
