“What did he read to you,” Mrs. Kellam was asked by Ms. Fox, who visited her in 1997.
”It was always the right thing,” she answered.

From the New Yorker’s review of “We Were an Island,” the story of Art and Nan Kellam, who left California to live alone on island in Maine together from 1949-1985. Via PAS.

It’s apple season. And denim barn jacket, killer hat and neatly cropped beard season, too, incidentally.

Got a very nice, very random email from Camilo (great name) at Nord, a Swedish surf brand. “Check this out” it said with a link, plus “ps. Been following your blog for a couple of years. Love it!”

So I did check it out, and it was killer! Enjoy some serious Swedish Olde Man Style, courtesy of Nord. Their vimeo channel is worth checking out, too — Cold Water Stoke #1 makes Maine look warm. These dudes need to do something in the US, asap — the gear looks real real.

THIS SATURDAY @ ROGUES GALLERY — PROVINCETOWN, MA

Rogues Gallery / Quit Mad Stop collab party at the PTOWN store 8/20. Score one of only 13 (ooh, ominous) pairs of these oil cloth trunks — actually, score two (one for me, one for you… I’m a 31). It’s good to see someone doing something with swimming apparati other than biting surf jock shantz. These things are part bare knuckle boxer, part Da Bull — diesel fumes included at no extra charge.

RG will also be screen films by surf industry burner-downer Victor Pakpour. Get your shred on and hang out with the beach wizard behind Quit Mad Stop (and the gallery of Rogues, too).

PS-Modeling above done by the massively talented Sir Timmy.

1. The gentleman on the left is looking pretty real.
2. His name was Capt. Bill Black.
3. The fellow in the middle there is an 800-pound tuna caught in Maine waters in 1953.
4. The young whippersnapper on the right actually went by the name “Flicker.”

Oh, so you shoot film for that old-timey analog effect? Sorry pal, you got nothing on father time here. It don’t get no lo-fi’er than this, so deal with it!
